I arrived by train at Exeter St.Davids railway station, no hotel booking so went to the nearby Great Western hotel. A bit scruffy outside, ok inside. Friendly place. I live in a historic city,so know what too expect, Exeter did not let me down. Exeter is a smallish city, with a Cathedral in Devon in the Southwest of England. Located on the River Exe. Dating from before Roman time Exeter has much history.
---------Exeter is an easy city to walk round, The Cathedral has 900 years of history and is the Church of St. Peter. The Guildhall is on the High Street for over 600 years, men facing execution were held here before hanging on a schaffold outside. The granite to build the Guildhall came fro Dartmoor. The Castle is in he city centre and known as Roughmont Castle. King Richard 111 visited in 1483. Roughmont castle was mentioed in Shakespeares "Richard the 3rd"play.--- The Customs House down by the Quayside is an old Customs house operated by H>M> Customs.----The House that Moved, was moved for slum clearance , from Frog Street to Edmund Street. in December 19 , 1961.Posted by alectrevor 09:05 Comments (1)
